Hand in Hand Program of Pathfinders

Vanessa is 14 and her younger brother, James, is 9 years old. Their older cousin has sexually abused both of them. Their mother called the police and now wants to seek counseling for her children. For the many children and adolescents like Vanessa and James who have experienced sexual violence, Pathfinders developed the Hand in Hand Program.

Program Description

Hand in Hand is Milwaukee’s oldest, most comprehensive ongoing counseling program for young survivors. The program is designed for youth ages 6 – 17, males and females, who have been sexually abused or sexually assaulted. Hand in Hand assists youth to find new ways to cope with their feelings, feel less alone, and helps families work together to help victims heal from their abuse.

Services

Knowing that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they reach the age of 18, Hand in Hand offers many services:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Group Therapy – offered 3 times per year
  • Advocacy and Case Management
  • Safepath (414) 271-9523 - a 24 hour hotline for issues of youth sexual violence
  • Parent/Caregiver Support Group 
  • Prevention Education
