Back To School Campaign & Celebration Recap

Thank you to all of our friends and supporters who helped us celebrate the grand opening and dedication of the new Pathfinders Southeastern Education Center! The beautiful new facility would not exist without the support of the Milwaukee community.

The grand opening celebration on Sept. 20 brought together community supporters, board members, local representatives, nonprofit leaders, and many others who are dedicated to ensuring that Milwaukee’s young people receive the education that they both need and deserve. Development Director Genise Lindner, said, “Tonight, our supporters and community partners shared in the enthusiasm and vision for the students of the Education Center. We couldn’t be more proud of the partnerships that have been formed over the years, and how hopeful the future will be for young people in Milwaukee."

“All of us at Pathfinders were exceptionally proud of the number of donors, supporters, and collaborative partners who attended the Grand Opening and Dedication of our Southeastern Education Center.  Having so many members of our community participate in this important next chapter of our organization is a strong show of support for our mission to Empower Youth and Change Lives.  Our new school would not be possible without the support and generosity of our donors and allies.”
–President and CEO Tim Baack

The Southeastern Education Center (SEC) will ensure that middle school students who are close to being expelled receive additional attention and Trauma-Informed Care, so that they can return the MPS school system and thrive. The new school has been strategically placed above the Pathfinders Drop-In Center so that students are able to access necessities such as counseling, laundry, and food before and after school.

During the celebration, guests were greeted by a video made by Girl Scout Troop #3562, which was created to raise awareness around youth homelessness as part of their school supply drive for SEC.

Attendees were able to take tours of the Drop-In Center and SEC throughout the evening while enjoying a school-themed menu by Saz’s Catering.

Recognition

Principal Darren Buckley welcomed guests and explained the importance of SEC, before Tim Baack, President and CEO of Pathfinders recognized the people who made SEC possible.

The school's conference room was dedicated to John Molenaar, the former president of Southeastern Youth & Family Services, and many of his family members were in attendance to honor his legacy to the organization.

The new school will include The Karen LeSage After School Programming, named after Pathfinders’ deeply missed supporter, Karen LeSage. Her daughter, Juli Kaufmann spoke about her mother and explained the importance of sending light into the community. (Read her speech here.)

Lisa Ryan presented the Jim Ryan Community Partnership Award to St. Mary Catholic Faith Community. The award is named after Jim Ryan for his efforts in connecting Pathfinders and Southeastern Youth & Family Services. This year the award goes to St. Mary Catholic Faith Community in order to recognize them for their outstanding support and fundraising.

And finally, we would like to recognize those who took part in giving to our Pathfinders Southeastern Education Center “Back to School, Education Campaign 2016.” Thanks to the community's generous support, Pathfinders was able to raise $60,625 towards investing in the ongoing support for our brand new educational facility. Although we are still working to meet our overall campaign goal, the amount of support already provided is instrumental to fulfilling the needs of some our communities most at-risk students. Continued engagement with key allies and supporters will continue throughout the month of October. Thank you!!!
