All HIH Staff have been trained in Trauma Informed Care. Trauma Informed Care is based on the understanding of the triggers and vulnerabilities of trauma survivors so that our HIH services are supportive and avoid re-traumatization. HIH follows trauma specific interventions to address the trauma and facilitate healing. HIH recognizes and honors the client’s need for: respect and being hopeful regarding their recovery, understanding the interrelation between the trauma and the symptoms of the trauma, and the need to work collaboratively with family, friends, and other human service agencies in a way that is empowering to the client. Additionally, HIH is committed to excellence by using best practices and using effective evidenced based treatments. All HIH Staff have been trained in Trauma Focused–Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT has been found in multiple research studies to be an effective treatment for children and their families with trauma-related problems. It is also a nationally recognized best practice for survivors to process the sexual abuse experience, normalize reactions, and develop adaptive coping strategies. The HIH Program adopted the TF-CBT model that has helped youth and their families make great strides in therapy.
